Hello everyone and welcome to Dragonwolfe.com, my resource of disability links for the ability encouraged and their caregivers. I'm a 1969 vintage Aquarian who utilizes a wheelchair and a ventilator as a result of being born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This site is a labor of love and dedication, enjoy.

Hi, my name is Philip Jordan and I'm the Webmaster of Dragonwolfe.com Ability Resource [DAR]. In 1995 I experienced respiratory failure as a result of DMD and found myself suddenly relying on a ventilator to handle all of my breathing needs and I was stuck in bed for about two months. As most DMD patients can confirm, this long stay in bed dropped my strength level a great deal--permanently. This loss of strength cost me the use of my computer which was my life, my livelihood and generally the center of my universe. Without it I couldn't feel productive and I was pretty much devastated by the limited use I was now relegated to.
As a result of this, my uncle began researching alternate ways to use the computer on my behalf. By June 1996 I found myself with a miniature, no-pressure, stylus-controlled keyboard that reopened the world of computing to me and a slew of disability resources. As I began to use the internet more and more I made a habit of collecting bookmarks of disability links and resources. In 1997 I started playing with web page design and quickly became bored with WYSIWYG tools for doing so. Out of a desire to be more creative and in control of my designs, I ended up teaching myself how to program in HTML. In 1998 I established dragonwolfe.com. The name comes from a character in a story I wrote many years before and represents power, nobility, loyalty and determination--it encompasses my spirit as a disabled man. I put a personal web page up on the site to display my creative endeavors. In 1999 I had the bright idea to share my collection of disability links by creating a disability resource page for my site. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of giving the page a confusing name and making it hard to find. It wasn't until 2002 that I dedicated my site to being a disability resource, gave it a better name and a professional look. Since then the site has grown slowly but steadily. I receive three or four link requests a month. I hope to continue providing a valuable service for the ability encouraged, their caregivers and their families and friends. |
